Quiksilver Bowlrider’s tour underway

April 27th, 2007 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Just last year around this time I was following the Quiksilver Bowlrider’s tour around Europe. Because of my workload I’m stuck in Hamburg right now, but I can at least give you the round-up of the dates for the rest of the tour. Sessions in Athens, Mailand, Kortnik and Leioa have already taken place but there are a few big ones left around the world:

Omar Hassan – frontside lipslide.

The next contest stops:

April 28th: Marseille (France)
April 28th: Lisbonne (Portugal)
May 12th: Prague (Czech Republic)
May 19th: London (UK)
May 19th: Seattle (USA)
May 26th: Hagen (Germany)
May 27th: Hard (Austria)
June 2nd: Lausanne (Switzerland)

and the Grand Finals:

June 7th – 10th: Malmö (Sweden)
There is €35.000 in price money up for grabs so I’m betting my socks that lots and lots of good riders will be turning up. I’ll be trying to get the Hamburg crew to have a short skate trip down to Hagen on May 26th.

Plan B team coming to Hamburg, Germany

April 25th, 2007 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Now that is some nice news to read the first thing in the morning (well, the first thing I read about was St. Pauli’s football team jumping to first place in the third league yesterday evening in Bremen, alright!): Danny way, Colin McKay, Paul Rodriguez, Pj Ladd, Pat Duffy, Ryan Sheckler, Brian Wenning and Ryan Gallant should all be a part of the quick visit over here. I am really hoping the vert guys use the halfpipe, that would be nice to see live! And we don’t want to forget to mention the “local” rippers including Alex Mizurov, Lem Villemin and Max Beinhofer. Yeah Alex is the young skater from Germany who beat a lot of pro skaters just last year over in the States.

The day takes off on May 26th in Hamburg. At 2 p.m. there will be an autograph session at the Mantis skate shop. Then at 5 p.m. it’s off to the I-Punkt Skateland for a session with the Plan B crew!

And for everybody who has been confused through the two different truck advertisements for Ryan Sheckler, he is still riding for Silver trucks…

Meanwhile 2 gap in London awaiting the bulldozers

April 20th, 2007 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Yes, you are reading correctly. The Meanwhile 2 gap is going to meet its untimely end, but not without a nice skate session! Crossfire is organizing a pre-demolition session in association with Globe and Almost. The whole thng takes place on Saturday, May 5th. Chris Haslam, Greg Lutzka, Cooper Wilt, Lewis Marnell and Torey Pudwill, plus most representatives of the UK will be on the scene.

The Element Manual Challenge will be taking Europe by a storm this year after the Finnish tech-wizard Janne Sarrio won the Bright Show competition for Element earlier this year. Check out the stops below:

As I am shifting through the news that I find on the Net, I found this goodie from Mark Gonzales. It’s around 10 years old and shows him entertaining Germans in a museum in a pretty interesting suit to say the least.

adidas Skateboarding has recently created a You Tube page where you can check out all their recent videos in one place. Busenitz, O’Connor, Gonz, the am team, and flow team with Lem Villemin can all be seen there. It’s definitely worth the checkout.

And on not such a happy note: the late Shane Cross gets the title page in the June issue of Transworld Skateboarding. R.I.P. Shane.

Promoting a good cause

This note doesn’t have much to do with skating (just yet) or does it? I want to promote another site I just launched called “Give Earth a Hand” – it’s a network like MySpace and all the others but it has a big difference which makes it special. It allows the members to help support ecologically oriented non-profit projects worldwide. Members of the community can blog, meet other people, well just about anything you know from other sites of this kind, but they may also join the Earth Chain by donating two Euros (yeah, that’s it!

So drink just one beer less tonight and you’ve already helped out!) and they get their place in the Chain!

That’s all. Simple idea and hopefully effective. Once the chain is complete – 1,290,000 million people – at least 13 projects will receive 100.000 Euros. I am hoping that the advertising on the site will take off, thus the site will be able to donate even more to the fund!

For the future an e-mailing and chat system will be available. And I am looking into the idea of setting up subdomains like “skateboarders.giveearthahand.com” and targeting certain groups.
