Volcom ROCK'IT LIKE A HURRICANE contest

The guys from Sidewalk Skateboard magazine found themselves in Munich just the past few days at the ISPO and a big thanks goes out to them for getting some good video cuts from the Volcom ROCK’IT LIKE A HURRICANE mini ramp contest which yet again is one of my favorite contests to watch. A really big ramp with tons of different possibilities for the riders and some crazy skating was going on. Enough said, check out the video to make your own opinion!

John Cardiel first episode on VBS - Epicly Laterd

John Cardiel gets Epicly Later'd

That’s right everybody, the Epicly Later’d series continues over on VBS.tv with (drum roll) no one less than John Cardiel! If I can still read correctly 16 episodes are going up about the man with episode 1 introducing John, where he comes from, why he likes to do body flips and a little insight into his horrible accident down under last year in Australia. People thought he was done for, couldn’t use his legs again, but John has a positive attitude which sees him walking and actually being able to skate a bit again.

Sit back and enjoy another good episode of Epicly Later’d! Just in case the video below doesn’t work sometime in the future, here’s the link to it: click here for John Cardiel Episode 1

And if you want to actually use you brain a bit more and you can read, then check out the Skateboarder Magazine interview with John Cardiel!

Jesus Fernandez skates for Matix Clothing

Jesus Fernandez joins Matix

Big names in skating usually involve big companies or teams working hard to get them on board their team. Matix just landed the next coup with Jesus Fernandez. Here’s the official Matix statement:

Matix is proud to announce the addition of Jesus Fernandez to the team. The Spanish skater, currently residing in the European skate-Mecca, Barcelona, joins team riders Daewon Song, Rick McCrank, Brandon Biebel, Jeron Wilson, Van Wastell, JB Gillet, Tory Pudwill, Mike Mo Capaldi, Marty Murawski, Mike Anderson, Rodney Mullen and Thrasher magazine’s ‘Skater of the Year’, Marc Johnson on the international line-up for 2008 after turning heads with his break-through video part in Lakai’s, Fully Flared.

“We’re really excited to have Jesus onboard with Matix. He’s a perfect fit on the team.” said Tony Evjenth, Matix Team Manager. “His Lakai video part has opened many eyes to what we’ve known for years - that he rips like no other.” Jesus first started skating with his brothers in his hometown of Madrid before moving to Barcelona 4 years ago. Jesus is about to have his first board released on Chocolate and is currently filming for forthcoming video projects. Plans are also in the pipeline for getting him on the road this year with the Matix team.

Matix joins Lakai, Chocolate and Royal in support for Jesus in 2008 and beyond.

Burger King starts extreme sports video contest in Sweden

Burger King Sweden video contest

Ahhh, skateboarding is becoming more and more attractive for the big businesses out there which are looking for ever new ways to market their products and brands. Fair enough and good for us skaters…with skateboarding itself supposedly already crossing the 5 billion dollar mark worldwide as an industry, it’s no wonder to any logically thinking person that companies are licking their lips because of this target group.

Speaking of licking your lips - Burger King has jumped into the “extreme” sport arena in Sweden and is offering 50.000 Kronen (something like 6.700 Euros or 10.000 US Dollars) for the best extreme video - just make your film, upload it and possibly win. Maybe stuffing a Whopper in your mouth while you’re doing a treflip could get you some extra points….

Take a look at the videos and learn some Swedish right here…

Torey Pudwill is the Matix Lord of The Lines 2008

Lord of the Lines 2008 contest

Update! Sorry, a friend of mine here decided to play a joke and added some other skater names in here…here’s the real score!

Events, sessions and contests. The schedule is packed at the moment and yet another contest, the Matix Lord of the Lines 2008, took place just this past weekend at the ASR in San Diego, California with the skateboard companies all there to represent, sell and compete. From what I’ve read the contest sounds just laid back and like a load of fun.

Three obstacles were set up (a manual pad, a flat bar and an up ledge) on a straight path for the riders and the only rules were to hit the three obstacles in a row with your best tricks. 15 skaters were involved with the top three heading to the final jam. 15 minutes for Torey Pudwill, Bobby Worrest and Joey Brezinski with Torey taking home $10,000 bucks for first place!

Europeskate HQ weekly update

Europeskate's weekend roundup

This coming weekend is packed full of skateboard events around Europe which will attract a variety of skateboarders with different skills, sponsors, attitudes and backgrounds. Everything which is necessary for a good contest weekend full of skating, partying, slams, joy and defeat. What is this guy talking about you might be thinking…

Well nothing more than about the Simpel Session 2008 contest in Tallinn, Estonia - the Cancer Research Jam at Central Skatepark in Manchester, UK supporting a good cause and the Vert Attack II at the Brygerriet Skatepark in Malmö, Sweden. Skateboarding is still growing and the amount of contests is keeping the pace which is helping to get skaters from all over the world together, creating new friendships, shared memories and a lot of good times for us to talk about and remember for years to come. I hope that many more of you out there trust in yourself and try to put together some small sessions or events. No need to have loads of cash to give away, just make it fun and somehow different than other events, you’ll be surprised how many skaters turn up to show their skills and have a blast!

The website you are on right now, Europeskate.com, is growing, changing and adapting as well. I’ve been working on the site for over 1.5 years more as a hobby and it’s great to see the interest grow. There’s still a lot to do, things which don’t always work, options which are missing that could make the site more user friendly and actually as the sub-title claims - connect Europe’s skateboarders.

The site will receive a complete update this weekend which you probably won’t even notice but certain functionalities will be introduced to improve the usability and add in one new area which will be announced in the near future. Oh yeah, you might have noticed that I removed the “Forum” area…not much was happening there other than spammers trying to push their porn pictures on us. This is a website for skateboarding and the lifestyle we celebrate every day, that’s it! Have a great weekend and learn something new on that board!
