Baltic Games in Gdansk, Poland August 8 – 10
July 24th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Jumping around Europe today and in August (8th till the 10th) the Baltic Games will be taking place in the town of Gdansk, Poland. The event is made up out of a combination of skateboard street, bmx, mountain biking, skim boarding and motocross (a lot of sports going on there…) and parties/concerts in the evenings (Friday is hip-hop day, Saturday punk rock day and Sunday is the reggae day for coming down again…).

Sounds like a fair amount of fun if you are in the area. I didn’t see anything about prizes yet but the event site is up and they seem to be translating everything into English as well so have a look:
Here’s where Gdansk, Poland is on our planet!

Matix Grey Daze in Deutschland recap
July 24th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

A lot of good skaters have been on tour through Germany lately including the Matix team during the Grey Daze tour from Frankfurt to Berlin. Here’s the official news release plus some pics…
Jesus Fernandez, JB Gillet, Mikemo Capaldi, Torey Pudwill, Danny Brady, Marty Murawski, Mike Anderson, Lem Villemin and Vivien Feil experienced the “Grey Daze” Germany had to offer us on the recent Matix trip. The team started off at the Bright Tradeshow in Frankfurt where Mo had a release party for his upcoming signature Asher. Kids lined up to meet the Mo and get a free LTD Mo tee, given to them by Mo himself.

Saturday July 11th the team threw their signatures down on a stack of posters during their signing at Railslide Skateshop, while sipping black coffee. (The Railslide bro’s brewed up at their in-store coffee shop.) After three days in Frankfurt, burned out on tradeshow craze and the few cases of Becks the team had gone through, they packed their bags, crowded into a Euro-size rental van (which was small) and trekked to Berlin.
During their five-day stay in Berlin—no bank was left un-skated, no marble was left un-grinded and no beer was left un-opened. When you’re skating the most unique spots Berlin has to offer with some of our most talented Matix riders, you get a lot of stuff done. From a Titus “Zoopreme” store signing and a load of filming to shooting for a Monster Magazine article the 8-day stay has produced some good coverage available in the near future.

July 24th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Finally getting some news in here from other parts of Europe – I’m working towards covering more of the countries over here in the near future anyway. The guys from Wreckless skate shop over in Ireland sent over this info about the Kings Of Concrete taking place this upcoming weekend:
Kings Of Concrete is back Bigger than ever this year: Two days of Urban Flavor July 26th/27th Wood Quay Civic Buildings.
Kings of concrete events are a fusion of urban sports, music and street art. Its a gathering of like-minded people, in essence a collaboration of skaters, BMX’ers, bladers, artists, musicians & generally groovy folk. Everyone is welcome to come along & participate in the fun or just relax and enjoy the spectacle.
There are ramp competitions for skating, blading, BMX”ing as well as a break dancing comp, an Ollie comp, a game of skate, hackysack & loads of free giveaways on the day. The weird, wonderful & colorful backdrop is provided compliments of a number of graffiti artists working on various pieces throughout the duration of the event. The Beats are provided by a combination of live acts & Dj”s. Including Electronic act Lectrosoul. And Choice Cuts Dj”s who laid down The Beats For the Day. These events are aimed at a wide audience & are family friendly.

Swiftfooted online mag release issue 007.08!
July 23rd, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by Jonathan Young

I’ve been following the Swiftfooted magazine out of Belgium for several issues now and as the saying goes: actions speak louder than words. In this case I would exchange ‘actions’ for ‘pictures’. Stefan Remes and his ‘team’ have put togetehr another great collection of photos and words which made me want to keep flipping the virtual pages of this Belgium mag.
This issue includes a report about the European Vans ‘Roll with us’ tour, then moves on to show some of an exposition called street life with some interesting art, throws in a couple of interviews with a Belgium artist and Bastien Marlin, a French skater who has been crossing the border a lot lately. With other odds and ends inbetween, the mag finishes off with some good photography…all in all, definitely worth spending the time to read and enjoy.

Danny Cerezini and the 19 tricks video
July 23rd, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Danny Cerezini has been travelling through Europe the past few weeks, just coming off the big win at the Copenhagen PRO contest, chilling a bit at the Mystic Cup in Prague and hitting the BRIGHT tradeshow in Frankfurt plus the so-called Ghetto-Spot in Frankfurt.
The relatively new German skateboard magazine ‘Place‘ sponsored several brand new marble ledges for the spot and Danny took them apart with 19 tricks (okay, I didn’t count them all, I just believed what Danny said…), check out his video right here. He’s hanging out in Barcelona at the moment and he is still keeping the blog going strong!

Etnies 15 minutes of Barcelona video bliss
July 22nd, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

These videos just keep getting better and better. “Old” and “new” skaters, new technology, ambitious video techniques and good spots all come together in this Etnies video documenting the Barcelona 2008 tour. And yes, it’s 15 minutes long so maybe you shouldn’t watch it during work – take the lunch break
– unless your boss is pretty cool that is….
Click on the pic below to make the jump to the video. There is also a hi-res download available.
