Artists supporting the Swift Cantrell skatepark in Georgia, USA

In this posting I am going across the pond to the USA…to be exact Kennesaw, Georgia which will receive a new public skate park which will be built in a recreational park and cost an estimated $1,000,000 bucks. To help support the costs and make sure it really will be built. Get the whole story and a look at some of the awesome boards which are being sold in the auction – that’s right, you can buy them, skate them, hang them up, whatever…

Take a look at all of the designs right here >
Here’s what they the people hosting the auction, Foundation One Gallery, have to say themselves:
Foundation One Gallery Presents “The Grind†– an art exhibition and charity auction featuring more than 60 nationally recognized artists.
“The Grind†is a collection of art created on skateboards by a list of nationally recognized artists. The entire exhibit will be auctioned for charity. Some of the artists donating art for the auction include Mike Giant, Todd McFarlane, Shepard Fairey, Alex Pardee, Derek Hess, Faile, David Carson, Scott Campbell, Tim Biskup, Paul Frank, and local artists Dosa Kim, Michi, Sam Parker and Bethany Marchman. All proceeds from the auction will benefit The Swift-Cantrell public skate park. The auction will take place at the opening reception and all bids must be received by 11PM on December 8, 2007. Foundation One Gallery will also offer bidding on-line through their website www.foundationonegallery.com two weeks prior to the opening reception (NOVEMBER 24, 2007). Opening bid is $100 for all boards. Following the auction, all remaining skateboards will be offered for sale at Foundation One Gallery and through the gallery’s website. Prices for the remaining boards will be determined after the auction closes.
“Being a parent myself, I am all about having places in the community where kids can go to have fun. To be able to have some fun of my own and do some cool artwork in order to contribute towards this skate park was an easy decision for me.†– Todd McFarlane, Creator of Spawn

Coke is sponsoring a contest in which the winning park will receive a $100,000 grant. Currently Swift Cantrell is in 2nd place nationwide! Contest ends July 15. You can vote as many times as you want, and if you check in to the park using four square, 100 votes go to the park at each check in! Kennesaw Parks and recreation have the link on their page. It would be nice to have that money for the park!
