Photography and skateboarding go hand in hand – there are just some of those magazines with special pictures that stay in memory forever it seems and that’s when you know a photograph speaks louder than 1000 words. Bryce Kanights has been involved with skateboarding for a very long time, both on the board and behind a camera. Nemo Entertainment has put together a three part series (well 5 part including the two bonus videos) which lets us take a look at a what Bryce Kanights does and his ideas behind his work and life.

James Kelch is one of the best known Embarcadero scene personalities who put down his footprint on skateboarding big time – watch the videos and make sure you catch up on his skating in the older videos. Pools story or Ryan Sheckler interview?
July 20th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Strange title huh? Yeah, I didn’t know how else I could combine two articles I found thanks to Skatedaily.net which are both good reads.
The first one is titled “Pools” written by Lance Dawes which goes through the history of pool riding and integrates a bunch of quotes from well-known skaters dealing with the topic. Nice pics and good viewpoints will suck you straight into this article
- Read Slap Magazine’s ‘Pools’ article by Lance Dawes
Or if you want to read another look-behind-the scenes article about everybody’s favorite “hate”-skater Ryan Sheckler, than you’ll take the hop over to the ESPN site where a Ms Allison Glock followed along for a day with Ryan. It is a good read as maybe some will actually understand a little bit more about the guy. Sure, there’s a lot that just isn’t really good for skateboarding, but he does have some good points. And he’ll get older and look back someday – he’ll have to do that, not us.

Theotis Beasley at the Berrics skatepark
July 3rd, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young
Time to return to The Berric’s, Steve Berra’s and Eric Koston’s skatepark ( if you didn’t know yet
) and they have been busy as usual. Well what do you expect actually, them not skating their private park?? Of course not.
Their latest recruit, Theotis Beasley, has got some smart footage up on the site currently. He is one good tech skater, packing out loads of different flip, manual, 360 trick in the book and more on top with some of the most perfect and non-sketchy landings I’ve seen. A kid to watch – yet again. Ummmm, that’s probably why he’s the recruit of the day, right?
Find out more about Theotis in this interview over on the Active Ride Shop website and click on the picture below to watch his slick video part at The Berrics….and while you are at the site, check out the many other videos. Steve Berra is still ripping it very well is all I can say.
Take a peek at ÜBER Skateboards and Rockers Hardware
June 24th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Last week I hooked up with some of my mates over at the Hamburger headquarters of ÜBER Skateboards and Rockers Hardware for a look around their place of business and to dig my prying eyes deeper into what is going on with this fast growing company.
Basically the roots of these companies come from Manuel Weschenbach (editor’s note: Manu, tell me if I got this wrong!) who’s a skater living in Hamburg. He started selling boards through the AllYouCanSkate.com site – which could be another topic to pick up on of course as many skaters have quite different opinions about blanks – and this has evolved into selling trucks, wheels and boards from other European brands.

One thing lead to another and the decision wasn’t that far off to use the company’s own printing press to start their own board company, ÜBER Skateboards. The idea started off in the middle of 2007 with the first boards hitting the market at the beginning of this year. The name of the new brand means “above” in German which could be misinterpreted as being obnoxious but me knowing the guys means that they had a different reason for the name.
Thomas Tröger, the marketing man behind ÜBER and Rockers tells his view about the company: “ÜBER stands for being above the rest because skateboarding doesn’t have a language or a country – it’s just more than that. ÜBER is not a German company. We see ourselves as a European brand. That’s why our boards are printed on the top in five languages. Actually, the name was inspired by Willow as he uses the word ‘über’ a lot and we already had the idea of doing something with him through Rockers Hardware”

They sure have some heavy hitters in the two team, just check out the pros and believe me, I’ve seen the ams skate and they are way up there on the level scale as well. All in all a very down-to-earth bunch of guys completely dedicated to skating and supporting skateboarding itself who are working hard on building skate teams that will get a lot of notice in the future – watch out for them!

2008 Skateboard Deck review from Transworld
June 24th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young
I have always been really interested in checking out the newest skateboard products hitting the market and these days it is getting harder and harder to keep up-to-date with the many different companies grabbing for a piece of the skateboard market pie.
Transworld Business has put together a very nice gallery of skateboard decks coming out 2008 which you can take a look at below. They will be updating the decks so make sure you bookmark this page to have a reference point for the future. And while you are at it make sure you read up about what manufacturers have to say about what is going to happen in the market (read the article here with the first 10 opinions)
