Bailgun Magazine Issue 11 Online Now

Even being told weeks in advance, getting asked to do a translation and offered some advertising space, I am still probably one of the last online blogs getting this piece of news on the site. My mates Gerd Rieger and Axel Torschmid have put together the next grand issue of Bailgun Magazine, issue #11, which is packed front to back with photography which tell stories almost all by themselves and this mag always manages to make me wish I had been along for the ride (to be honest, I once again missed out on actually getting to go on the Belgium tour – tough luck Johnny!)

No extra words needed, dive in below and take some time out to enjoy Bailgun’s next great effort – keep them coming boys! And check out the Bailgun Magazine website while you are at it!

ÜBER Skateboards Team Skate Hamburgs Indoor Park

My mate Thomas Tröger from ÜBER Skateboards out of Hamburg, Germany sent over a video clip link featuring some skating of the ÜBER team members Kenny Hopf, Simon Schulz and Max Prause at our local indoor skatepark “Skateland” – made me realize I haven’t been in there for over 6 weeks with the summer heat and my baby being born…

Whatever, check out the chilled out skating – Kenny Hopf has got those flips and manuals down real good!

German COS Cup Skateboard Contest Series At The Splash Festival

It is one of those mornings when I’m sitting in front of my laptop sipping my coffee while getting the latest skateboarding news together for the day and I have to come up with a title for the post – as you can see it wasn’t my best day with this title as it turned out a bit large ;)

Whatever, the news is the important bit and the German Club Of Skaters skateboard championship series continues tomorrow, July 23rd until the 25th 2010 at the splash! festival in Gräfenhainichen, Germany. Man, what a name for a town and I have been living in Germany for a long time so I am used to the names but Gräfenhainichen is really one of the best to date *hehe*.

Back to business though: during this well known hip-hop festival (Wu-Tang Clan is in there as well!) the top street skaters from around Germany will be battling it out for points for the German championship series on the course being built specially for the contest by Andreas “Schützi” Schützenberger von IOU Ramps.

Vans Downtown Showdown 2010 Dates In Hamburg, Germany

Vans Downtown Showdown 2010 Dates In Hamburg, Germany

Just over one month until the next big skateboarding event hits Hamburg, Germany and this is one I’m really looking forward to – the Vans Downtown Showdown 2010 in Europe will be taking place at the world-famous Reeperbahn August 14th. And the best thing about it is: I can actually get there! Hope you can make it as well to enjoy the skating and the partying afterwards – yeah, I like to party!

Here’s the official statement from VANS about the Vans Downtown Showdown 2010 in Hamburg:

This year’s hosting city of the legendary Downtown Showdown has been confirmed as everyone’s favourite northern German City. That’s right folks, on Saturday the 14th of August 2010 the famous harbour city Hamburg will host the international skateboarding extravaganza, right in the heart of the famous red-light district at the Spielbudenplatz / Kiez.

Ten of the best skateboarding teams from all over Europe have been invited to come together to battle it out against each other – far removed from the usual format of any other skateboarding competition. The event will take place on special customised ramps, which are all designed by the teams themselves. Inspired by all the weird and wonderful things that come to mind when thinking of the cities colourful reputation, you can be sure to see some very special obstacles to be built. Think shipyards, sailors, pirates, dirty bars, hourly motels, ladies of the night, anchor tattoos, salty sea dogs, sea shanty, the Beatles (and staying up all night), stripey tops, parrots, Reeperbahn, Astra Beer… get the idea?

The Vans Downtown Showdown is not just another skateboard competition, but a challenge, where craftsmanship, obstacle ideas and creativity play a decisive role.
It was just last year, that the now legendary US Downtown Showdown skateboarding event came cross the Atlantic to take place in Europe for the first time: On top of the high roof of the historic Lingotto building in Torino (Italy).

We can announce that some of the top board-brands in skateboarding have already confirmed to join in for this year’s event. Antiz being one of them with Pro skaters Hugo Liard, Sam Partaix, Julian Dykmans and Julian Furones up for the challenge. Also agreed to take part and send their talented team to Hamburg is Element Europe. Watch out for Guillaume Mocquin, Phil Zwijsen, Ross McGouran and Madars Apse tearing up the course.

All board companies are invited to create an original and challenging obstacle idea from which the best three will become part of the course and then skated in separate jam sessions. If past designs are anything to go by then there are sure to be some surprises that will keep spectators and riders alike entertained throughout the day. Oh and we almost forgot to mention, the prize purse is filled full to the rim with a total of 50’000 Euro which will be split across the different teams for winning the set challenges.

The Vans Downtown Showdown concept was created for skaters by skaters and has been running in Hollywood’s Paramount Studios, with huge success, for four years. Involving legends such as Jamie Thomas, Alex Olson and Rick McCrank and companies such as Girl, Zero, Toy Machine and Alien Workshop, who each year, create their own Off the Wall ideas to be skated. Be ready to see some European flavour added to this renowned event, leading the way for future skate contests.

Tony Hawk And Friends Tour Head To Berlin

For everybody heading towards Berlin, Germany this coming weekend for the Bright tradeshow (July 8th – 10th 2010 – click right here for the Bright website) you can add a little extra spicing to your skateboard weekend by starting it off Thursday, July 8th with the Tony Hawk and Friends European Tour show at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin.

Maybe you can remember all the way back to November 2009 – I hope you can – when Tony Hawk, Andy MacDonald, Sandro Dias, Jean Postec, Kevin Staab, Jesse Fritsch, Sergie Ventura and Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins landed in Paris with an extraordinary show in which Lyn-Z Adams pulled the first 540 every landed by a woman. So if you have the time and the really fair amount of 13 Euros to give out, head over to Berlin and enjoy some of the best vert riding around. The tour will be stopping off in Brighton and Barcelona as well this summer.

The Berlin Clash 2010 Skateboard Contest Results And Video Clips

Berlin, Germany was the target of skaters around Europe just this past weekend as the Skatehalle Berlin hosted along with Relentless Energy the Clash 2010 street and bowl contest. Some of the top names from the past weren’t present this year ( Jürgen Horrwarth, Dennis Busenitz and last year’s winner Bastien Salabanzi ) but the list of skaters particpating still had it’s share of top names including tech wizard Chris Haslam, Tom Penny, new Flip amateur Andrew Langi, Vince del Valle, Yannick Schall, Thomas Weber, Alex Mizurov, Lem Vilemin, the man of the moment Youness Amrani and one of my personal favorites out my town of Hamburg: Michi van Fintel.

After all of the madness of a contest weekend with the crash-inflicted injuries, last year’s third place holder Thomas Weber came out on top of the street contest. Check out the results right here push the video clips from this weekend!
