Volcom Stone Amsterdamn Am 2010 Skateboard Contest

This upcoming weekend the fifth annual Volcom Stone AmsterDamn Am 2010 amateur street skateboarding competition returns to Amsterdam Skatepark (July 9, 10 and 11). With an overall purse of 15,000 euros, those on site will definitely witness some of the finest amateur skateboarders in the world battle it out and don’t miss the infamous Amsterdamn Am party with Nihilist back from the grave.

So that was the official statement slightly edited by myself – with up to 100 skaters battling it out, the top amateur skaters will be flocking to Amsterdam for a weekend of fun. If you can’t make it like myself (I even have a real excuse this time with my baby just being born…) then head over to the Volcom Europe website for the live webcast starting Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm GMT.

As last year, first and second place win plane tickets to Tampa Am 2011 in Tampa, Florida, USA, and are seeded directly into the semifinals. The top 12 placings will be qualified for Tampa Am 2011. The winner will also win a return plane ticket to Amsterdam Am in 2011.

Ricardo Paterno ripping for 5 minutes

November 7th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

I just like skaters that skate fast and with a good flow which overflows with style. Ricardo Paterno puts his skills on video with this nice 5 minute video clip filmed and edited by Zev van Sluysdam. If I understand this right, it looks like he’s putting together a full video and this is just part of it – I’ll find out about this for you. In the meantime watch the video and check out the Zeker web site from Zev!

Sunday Video Footage August 2nd 2009

August 2nd, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Sunday afternoon videos update before I head out for a little session of my own so let’s check out the latest three videos:

- Ian Pruet puts down over three minutes of footage which show pretty much that this team is having fun but being the illiterate person that I am, I couldn’t figure out if Hush Riot is a team of it’s own, a tour name or just a part of Everyman Skateboard’s – whatever it is, watch the video here.

- The VOX team members David Gravette, JT Aultz and Emmanuel Guzman recently visited Portugal and here’s a small part of the footage for ya ,watch it right here.

- And rounding off today’s video collection here’s a trailer from “Full Length European Skateboarding Video” which was filmed, edited and produced by Colin Clark. The world premiere will take place in Den Haag, The Netherlands September 2009. Watch it right here.

AMSTERDAMN AM 2009 Day 1

July 25th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Amsterdamn AM 2009

Only a few hours away by car our a quick one hour flight separates the AMSTERDAMN AM 2009 contest from the ULTRA Malmö Bowl contest but I can easily say that the two contests are definitely in completely different leagues of skateboarding – maybe it is even better to keep the types of contests apart so that the action is more compact and to the point. I know for myself that I don’t enjoy watching several hours straight indoor park skating but I have no problems watching bowls being ripped…again, personal opinions and all.

Whatever – the action is also going down in Amsterdam this weekend in this 4th edition of Volcom’s AMSTERDAMN AM and with an overall purse of 15,000 EURO, 1st and 2nd place winning plane tickets to Tampa Am 2009 in Tampa, Florida, USA, and are seeded directly into the Semi-Finals – this looks like some skaters are going to be pretty hungry to win! The top 12 placings will be qualified for Tampa Am 2009. AND the winner will also win a return plane ticket to AmsterDamn Am 2010. Sounds good to me – but I’ll pass and let the young guns show how it’s done! Will Rob Maatman walk away with the win again? How about Axel Cruysberghs, Adrien Bulard or the more than wicked Ben Raemers? Maybe I could watch it for a few hours *hehe* – semiresults coming later today hopefully!

Dutch video mag: Tax Free #2

Another video blaster filled with street rippers is heading our way, this time it’s Tax Free Magazine with issue #2 out of Holland and yes, take the time to watch the trailer and you’ll see, Europe is packed with top skating skills as well. It’s starting to make me feel old god damn it! Everybody is flipping and whirling their boards over huge obstacles and down at least 7 or 8 steps it seems – and they make it look pretty good as well! Enjoy and good work from the Tax Free bros, keep it up!

Volcom’s AmsterdamnAm 2008 this weekend

Volcom AmsterdamnAm 2008

Loads of amateur skaters are either on their way or already relaxing in Amsterdam, getting ready for a weekend full of ripping at the Volcom AmsterdamnAm contest with 15,000 Euros ( around $23,640 USD at the moment ) in prize money. First and second place win plane tickets to the Tampa Am 2009 contest in Tampa, Florida, USA and are seeded directly into the semifinals. The top 12 spots will be qualified for the Tampa Am 2009.

The schedule is as follows:

July 18, arrival day, BBQ at either the Marnix bowl or Amsterdam Skatepark’s
new mini- ramp set up, depending on the weather.

July 19, Street qualifiers / Volcom Entertainment presents ASG live at
Winston Kingdom. Doors open at 9 PM.
July 20, Street semifinals, finals, and best trick.

-100 skaters maximum
-Pre-registration only. Contact: Rob Meronek / rob@damnam.com
-Skatepark opens at 10:30 every morning.

Directions: Fly to Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam. (AMS) Take the train from
the station inside to the airport to Centraal Station. (about 15 minutes and
5 euros.) Once at the station, exit the rear doors of the station and head
towards the water. Once you arrive at the only street, go left and walk down
to where the blue ferryboats are. The boats are free and you will want to
take the last boat on the left, next to the benches.
Once arriving on the other side, the skatepark is straight ahead and to the
right, in the old industrial area (shipyard).

-Hotels in Amsterdam tend to be expensive and hard to find at the last
minute. If you are planning on coming, take a look at booking.com and get a
leg up on reserving a room! Generally you will want to be in or around the
Centraal Station, if not be aware when you make the reservation, verify the
location of the hotel, otherwise it could be a big surprise!
-Bikes are a great way to get around the city quickly and can be rented everywhere.
-KLM and Transavia are both Dutch airline companies who have many flights in and
out per day to most countries.
