Band check-out : Sirhan Sirhan
January 11th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Sirhan Sirhan are a three man band out of San Diego, California sporting a mixture of screamo vocals, punk and metal riffs and basically quic and dirty lyrics. It definitely is not music for those of you out there hoping to snap your fingers to a beat or something silly like that (how did I come up with that sentence??).
Basically what these guys are up to is noise rock and just last year they came out with their debut album with 11 tracks entitled “Blood” which is in my opinion and eye and ear opener – something to listen to and different than most of the generic pop/punk/metal bands sprouting out of the ground everyday. Oh, and by the way a little history lesson for all of us: Sirhan Bishara Sirhan was the guy convicted for assassinating Robert Kennedy, thus changing history itself in the USA massively – are they trying to tell us something? Get the record/CD, it’s more than worth it!

New video from These Arms Are Snakes
December 14th, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by Jonathan Young

One of my favorite bands at the moment is “These Arms Are Snakes” with their different approach to arranging new music styles and keeping it rough. Here’s their latest video production of the song “Red Line Season”. More coming soon about this band as the entire record is something one has to listen to a few times ti appreciate!

Vans keeps moving and trying to find new chances of getting to the people. The idea with working with bands is not new but I always love the chance to go to a concert and listen to some new bands.

Sounds good to me – have fun, listen to bands and possible get some free gear, not bad.

Rise Against with new album “Appeal To Reason”
October 15th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Rise Against puts their name back into the headlines with their next full length album entitled “”Appeal To Reason”. I listened to the album a few times yesterday and well, yeah, it sounds like Rise Against, there are a few slightly new and interesting parts but altogether it’s pretty much the same direction as the former release. And nothing against that – surely recommendable if you know the band, like this type of music and if you can, make sure you see them live as the shows are quite intense.
But hold your horses – they will be touring Europe first starting February 3rd, 2009 in Vienna, Austria and then travel to Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Ireland and a lot of shows in the UK (London March 6th, 2009).

Crime In Stereo releases never published songs
October 12th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

I’ve been following Crime In Stereo from day one just about and I’ve always enjoyed their refreshing sound which mixes many musical elements but keeps the punk rock aggression in their sound. The latest record release “Selective Wreckage” has been available since September 30th, 2008 and watch out for them touring ther US and England with hopefully more dates following soon!
- Crime In Stereo MySpace page
Here’s what their record label “Bridge Nine” has to say about Crime in Strereo:
Crime In Stereo’s 2007 genre-defying album Crime In Stereo Is Dead was a huge step forward from 2006’s punk outburst The Troubled Stateside. Selective Wreckage isn’t so much of a b-sides collection as it is a collection of unreleased songs that document the band’s evolution from the 2005 recording sessions for Stateside and 2007’s Is Dead. Featuring the often rumored, but never released split EP with Capital, and songs from many recording session, this is a 10 song statement to Crime In Stereo’s talent and diversity and only begs the question-what will come when the band releases a new album in 2009.

Dennys Restaurant Rockstars Menu
September 16th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

You have to keep the marketing machinery going to attract people to your shop, restaurant, products etc. to keep the business going. Rock bands have huge followings and kids like to follow what they get up to so how about this:
Dennys restaurant invited Taking Back Sunday, The All-American Rejects, the Plain White T’s and the Eagles of Death Metal to take over their kitchen to create a late night meal. Now you can pig out from 10 in the evening til 5 in the morning and think you are being all rock n roll. Hmmm, not too sure about this but I di have to admit: every time I’m in the States I stop by Denny’s.

Featured Band on Europeskate: MJ13
September 3rd, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Coming home after a pretty strange day at work and some not-too-cool things happening, I wanted nothing more then to listen to some loud music which in some way expressed my…frustration I guess is the word I am looking for right now. Yeah, something to let go off that ever so slightly pissed off feeling that is creeping through my mind right now.
Nothing better then checking out some music websites and I came across a quite different and expressive sounding band going by the name MJ13. Made up of three guys (Andres Anguita, Anthony Johns and Felix the Rat) out of East London, the band mixes both slow and fast beats which made me tense ,yet attracted my attention to listen to more with raw guitars and a quite garage-like sound – no clean mixing going on here but it’s all very listenable.
Confused? Me too I guess. What I’m trying to say basically is that it’s catchy, dark, upbeat, philosophic and punk all mixed together. Okay, maybe you should just listen to it…my favorite song is “A Pocket Sex Poppy Like You” – get what I mean? They are that little bit different which makes them good.
Check their websites which all have a lot of their songs for listening…
