Product Check: Elwood Clothing Collection
November 8th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

One of the things I love about putting my time and effort into the Europeskate site is that I get to hook up with all sorts of people from around the world and exchange thoughts about – of course – skateboarding, art, music and products. It keeps me up-to-date about what’s going on and I’ve always been interested in seeing what the companies are coming up with, which new board/shoe/clothing etc. design will hit the market and get loads of people wanting it.
As with most product areas, there are the good ones and the stuff that should have never been produced. I don’t waste my time with the bad and I usually just let other people complain about things – that’s not my attitude.

Getting to the point: Muriel from Elwood Clothing was cool and sent me a package with some clothing to check out and I have to say: nice quality, good looking graphics, nothing flashy – just good clothes which fit well and are good to skate in. More of the latest collection right after the jump…
Zoo York Sky High Pro Series boards
August 5th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young
Been way too long presenting some new products, especially boards. So it’s good to get a pretty cool looking series from The ZOO YORK INSTITUTE which presents the Sky High Pro Series- a collaboration with Alessandro Zuek Simonetti. Born in Italy, Alessandro currently lives and works in New York City. Most well known for his photographs documenting street culture this project took him high above, to view the city in a new way, from above.
So, that was pretty good copy and pasting I did there. Where can you get your hands on these lovely looking decks? The usual “no idea” sentence for you – in selected shops. How about in selected websites *hehe* as a giveaway? I’ll try my luck for the trusty readers out there.

The 2009 SLAM Deck Guide
April 27th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

For me, it doesn’t matter really what graphics are the bottom of the board as long as the board itself suits my personal taste and feel for a board. But if I have a choice and you should usually, then I’d of course be picking that deck with graphics I like the most.
The good thing about skateboarding growing so big is that the amount of new board graphics and really quality design keeps growing as well. SLAM Skateboarding Magazine has put together a 2009 deck guide with a selection of decks for us to check out. Sure, it’s not all of them but it is good for a quick overview…Roger Skateboards and the ghost with a boner is absolutely a classic design. What an idea

éS Spring 2009 sneak preview shoes
December 18th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Bringing back some fashion / clothing / shoe updates at the end of the year as many of us will be on the receiving end of some Christmas presents or plain cash – not me, I’m the giver at the moment! But nevertheless it’s always fun to see what the companies’ product designers come up with to push the sales and maybe even create new trends.
Have a look at the latest shoes from éS coming out in spring 2009:

New decks from DEATH Skateboards
September 25th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

DEATH Skateboards has quite a good team together and I just love their designs. Simple and to the point (and they relate to my favorite football club St. Pauli – yeah, I have a season ticket and it’s great. You have to be in the stadium in Hamburg to understand, believe me, it’s not normal football there!) with their graphics, the new Punk Deck Pro Series represents Patrick Melcher, Zarosh and Richie Jackson.
Check out their site as they have a bunch of other decks and cool products if you like the skull, bones and death themes as much as I do!

Roll them Sk8 dice!
September 24th, 2008 / 5 Comments » / by Jonathan Young

There is always going to be a lot of space for creativity and new ideas in and around skateboarding. Robbie McKinley and Kevin Lewis came up with the idea to integrate the Game of S.K.A.T.E. into actual dice to spice up the game – the result being Sk8 Dice. Looks good to me. Go to the site to find out how to get a set.

Sneak product previews from the ASR

All courtesy of Transworld Skateboarding, here is a slideshow of some of the products you will be seeing in skate shops in 2009. Supposedly quite a few companies missed out on this year’s tradeshow but it’s something to look at…
Lakai Fully Flared t-shirts available
September 6th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

If you make something which is good and people like it, then you should know how to market it well. Lakai sure know how to do that and has now brought out t-shirts with various shots from the Fully Flared video intro. So what’s the big story? None really…cool t-shirts though.

Bamboo skate decks or Canadian Maple?
September 5th, 2008 / 88 Comments » / by Jonathan Young

The skateboard deck industry is becoming ever more competitive in the past years and this has led to new ideas and directions being followed in the development of the boards we trust. This can’t be seen as something bad as the industry has to push the limits to make decks evolve, become better, lighter, more robust and add that little extra of pop than the other companies.
I have no idea how these bamboo decks from BambooSK8 will pass the test of skating (I’ll be contacting them, let’s see if we can get some test boards over to Europe…) but I do like the idea of using a fast growing plant which has and does prove its strength even in skyscraper scaffolding constructions in certain countries. So it should do the job for a skate deck.
The green effect is an “extra bonus” which all of of us should look at more closely. Bamboo is harvested but does not have to be replanted like trees do. Maple trees are cut down after growing for several decades and if the facts are all true on the site, skateboarding is in place #31 for causing deforestation in North America. I’m not going to dive ointo that topic as I would have to spend a few days investigating all of the facts, who replants trees and all of the related factors.
So, no I am not putting down other manufacturing processes as I will continue to ride maple boards. But the concept behind BambooSK8 is interesting and definitely worth following in the next few months. You can find them at the ASR tradeshow in San Diego this weekend, booth #3519 or visit their website for more information.
Product Check-Out: Vans 80’s Craze Pack
September 4th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Hmmm, we could maybe talk about the name but with the number of new shoe styles and collaborations Vans is coming out with, it can proof difficult to find a name that will satisfy everyone. Not that the name even bothers me…yeah, whatever.
Vans has been releasing their Fall 2008 Collection and the above named 80’s Craze Pack is a part of it. So what’s it about? It’s a package made up of three different color styles of the Vans Half Cab model made of selected leathers and suede (maybe someone could elaborate on this topic – what exactly are selected or premium materials like leather and suede?) which pick up topics and looks of the 80’s.
This selected shoe (picture made courtesy of KicksonFire.com shown here features some black on white visuals on the side of the sole and a skateboard/lightning bolt mix on ths side of the shoe
