The Swedish Concrete Cup 2010 Kicks Off Today
May 15th, 2010 / 1 Comment » / by Jonathan Young
Back from my break from the Europeskate site due to unforeseen piles of work – but now I’m off for a while and it’s time to get this site rocking again. Especially I’ve decided to make sure I include a Lot more of the European news again to keep the name of the site a bit more close to home.
Enough talking: the Swedish “Betongcupen” (Concrete Cup I’m guessing) is supposed to kick off today, May 15th 2010, at the wonderful Sibbarp skateparj in Malmö, Sweden. I heard they may have to postpone it until tomorrow but I’m sure if you are at that corner of the Earth around this time, you’ll know. Take a look after the jump at some pictures and a video of the park! Read more…

The guys over on vert.nu are always busy getting the visual proof of what they’ve been up to online nice and fast. Last night after my vert fun I popped on over to their website and flipped through a bunch of nice pics documenting a good looking vert session this past Monday, November 09th, at the Stockholm Skatepark. For all of the pictures from *drumroll* I don’t know – who took these pics guys? Well, just click on the picture below for the entire gallery!
Gothenburg, Sweden and the new Stefan Hauser skate park
October 12th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Sweden is a country in Europe I can definitely start thinking about moving to in order to live. Especially with the amount of great concrete skate parks that are being built in the past couple of years. The next park which is getting the final touches to it is the Actionpark in Gothenburg, Sweden.
And yet again the man behind this incredible looking park in none other than Stefan Hauser, the same guy who designed the Malmö park! Just looking at it there are so many lines available to try out there is no way you can visit this place just for a day. My Swedish mate Magnus Olsevik sent me over some pictures of a pre-opening session he was able to take part in with Stefan Hauser, Hendrik, Wadsten and Stefan Stare just to test the park as it is opening in a few weeks. Lucky man!! Swedish holiday in spring 2009 for me, that’s for sure!

Malmo’s new concrete – Sibbarp skatepark
September 10th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

I was in Malmö, Sweden just this past summer and before we headed over to the contest one morning, we were directed to the latest in concrete wonders to go on display in Sweden. This time only a few kilometers away from the Stapelbäddsparken skatepark a quite different skate plaza of sorts has been put together. Nothing is higher than around 4 feet but everything is there – transitions, volcanoes, ledges, you name it – you’ll find it and you can coast the entire park without having to push!
It wasn’t finished back in summer but the construction team including Dave Toms, Chooky Fowler aka Jezza, Tobias Henriksson, Nils Svensson, John Magnusson, Patrik Evander and Pontus Alv really put together a beauty of a park. Lots of fun and a good place to chill – really close to the sea as well and away from neighbourhood housing..by the way, the grand opening was already held August 30th!
Here’s where you can find the park:
Sweden’s Highvalley Skatepark gets 3 million Euros!
September 10th, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by Jonathan Young

This fantastic piece of news landed in my mailbox yesterday from Ants Neo, one of the main figures behind the concept of the Highvalley Skatepark in Stockholm, Sweden – click here to read the Europeskate interview I did with him back in February 2008. For years he has been fighting with many other skaters to get a concrete park built and the day has finally arrived!
The park has received 30.000.000 Swedish Kroner, a little more than €3.000.000 (WHAT!!!!), to build this coming Spring 2009. The park will be ready to skate in 2010. Take a look at the CAD drawing below to see what we all can expect…hmm, moving to Stockholm? Sure looks good…maybe they should think about getting floor heating to melt the snow away in winter *hehe*.
Great to hear about this and my best wishes to Ants and everybody else involved – it pays off to have a dream and work for it!

Two more reasons for a skate trip to Sweden!

Halfpipe corner at the Area 51 skatepark in Göteborg
I got back just last Sunday from Malmö, Sweden which has the incredible Stapelbäddsparken concrete park and another park which is being built right now which was looking like a whole look of fun. While I was at the contest, I hooked up with Magnus Olsevik, a Swedish vert veteran from Gotheburg, while having fun in the parking lot and he was obviously in a better state of mind than I was as he got in contact with me after the contest, sending me two links to parks I had never heard of yet (well, okay, one is being built.
The first one is the Area 51 skatepark in Göteborg which is a skatepark, from what I can understand, which is underground! And this park has everything you need: street area, a large miniramp, a wooden pool and, believe it or not, a a large concrete halfpipe with a wooden corner!!! Definitely something out of the ordinary and a place to visit!

Another concrete park which is currently being built – by the looks of it the work just commenced – in Göteborg looks to become the next massive park Sweden receives. Yes, I am getting jealous about all of these parks!!!! And yes, it is true. This park is being built by the same guys who made the Stapelbäddsparken in Malmö! Check out the pic below and keep up to date about how it is coming along on the following sites:

Getting ready for one of the biggest events in Europe this year, here’s the schedule for the Quiksilver Bowlriders 2008 finals which is taking place yet again at the Stapelbäddsparken skatepark in Malmö, Sweden. And don’t worry, if you can’t make it the entire contest will be available as a live webcast, video on demand highlights and podcasts. Yes, skateboarding has grown up in the last few years!
It’s a packed program with the last qualification taking place tomorrow, June 12th and then the Junior, Pro and Masters contests will take over the park. Stockholm skateboard contest results from February 9th
February 19th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Vert skateboarding seems to be still going quite strong in Sweden as skate contests/events are being held at regular intervals at the Stockholm skatepark which has one beauty of a halfpipe and a strong following of vert fanatics, young and “old” alike. A couple of weeks ago another event was held in the ramp called the “Riksmästerskap” (something masters cup?? my German still doesn’t help me that far with Swedish and neither does my Muppet Show swedish help!).
I contacted the guys over at vert.nu, a Swedish website/blog which puts out regular updates and some nice photographic proof of what happens in the skatepark. Thanks to Anders, Dave Östlund and Uffe Andersson for letting me use the pictures on Europeskate. The Strongest of the Strange video from Pontus Alv
February 17th, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by Jonathan Young

Who says that only the newest skateboard videos can/should show up here…the Strongest of the Strange from Pontus Alv is a mix of filming from 2002 to 2005 stuffed with a great mix of terrains to make sure that this quite long movie doesn’t get boring for us (it’s over an hour long). Good to see the Steppe Side bowl, earlier named the Savanna Side Bowl in Malmö, Sweden which has been torn done twice already and some suspect the local city officials. Boy oh boy, they really must be bored or just plain jealous that their life sucks to go out and tear down a concrete bowl that doesn’t bother anybody. So be it, officials can be let’s just say different sometimes…
So if you are like me this weekend (I’ve caught the flu, damn!) then just sit back and enjoy this flick, it’s good stuff!
Millencolin Open street contest in Örebro, Sweden March 7th and 8th
February 4th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Our scandinavian friends have been hosting quite a few contests and sessions lately, several contests already taking place in Malmö and one across the border in Copenhagen. Especially a quite a few vert sessions are being put together in Copenhagen lately but coming March 7th and 8th the action moves even further north to the town of Örebro which is just to the west of Stockholm. Here’s what ther organizers have to say themselves about the contest:
Like always we give you beside the skateboarding contest, a Swedish skateboard brand expo, skate video premieres, live concerts, parties and tons of fun!
The contest will as always take place at the indoor park Brädcentralen in Örebro, Sweden. The contest is sponsored by WESC, NIXON, VANS & EASTPAK, who also endorse Millencolin. Brädcentralen will this year also go through an annual modification for the contest. The contest will start friday afternoon with qualifications for junior and senior classes and finish saturday with semi finals and finals. Judges in the contest are experienced contest skateboarders from different parts of Sweden. Except the honor and trophy filled with prestige, will the prizes include stuff from the sponsors and more. Nixon for example have been making these special engraved exclusive watches for the winners. The contest is well covered by media. Swedish skate web TACKY.SE did a live coverage of the event the whole weekend. The Swedish Skateboard Expo was a great hit last year and the goal is to make it even bigger this year!
Video premieres will be shown friday at some not yet confirmed bar/club in Örebro. Big fat screens and rock DJ’s.! No videos are booked yet! The night will continue with a party. (18+)
Live concert and a big official party will end the event saturday night at the original MC Open afterparty club: Satin. (18+) This years headlining band is not yet confirmed! Bands that played previous years are Millencolin, Franky Lee, No Fun At All, Looptroop, Randy, the Accidents and more. There will be Hip hop & reggae DJ’s on the top floor and rock DJ’s on ground floor like always too!
Millencolin Open is not only a skateboarding contest, also the greatest weekend in Örebro with a packed schedule and everybody are as usual more than welcome!
