Vert Skateboarding Flashback – Houston 1991

This one is for all of you vert skaters out there – looking back in the past is always a fun thing to do, especially with skateboading as it has changed, been redefined and has attracted new skaters to ride the ever growing vert ramps besides the old school skaters. Here’s a bunch of videos from back in 1991 at the SUAS in Houston, Texas with Lance Mountain, Mike Frazier, Bod Boyle, Darren Menditto, Omar Hassan, Dave Le Roux, Remy Stratton, Tony Hawk, Bod Boyle, Darren Menditto, Omar Hassan, Remy Stratton, Buster Halterman, Chris Gentry, Eric Nash, Chris Miller and many others ripping it back when some of you guys out there didn’t even know how to spell skateboard 
I just love watching these runs which aren’t packed with flip tricks and 540s (nothing against those tricks, but I just like a good mix!). There are three more videos after the jump, don’t miss them!
Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins Spins A 540 McTwist

Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins is the first female in the history of skateboarding to land a 540 McTwist! It happened this past weekend at the Quiksilver Tony Hawk show in Paris, France which featured top skaters ripping the vert ramp. Tony threw in a beautiful 900er as well, but I have to day I am damn impressed with Lyn-Z McTwist make – looking really good. Congrats! Check out the video to see it happen.
Vert Attack 3 – Fläsk TV Documentary Clip

If you haven’t noticed yet, I admit that I tend to try and add in news/videos/whatever about vert and bowl riding a bit more than the usual street clips – just personal preference and it always gets my blood cooking for more when I see where vert skating is headed.
For the past three years, the skateboard city of Malmö in Sweden has rounded up vert skaters from around Europe to let the world see that vert skating is very much alive. Fläsk TV recently put their short documentary of the Vert Attack III from January 2009 online – here it is, making me hungry for more!
Juergen Horrwarths Change Of Guard 2009

Juergen Horrwarth is currently THE vert representation for Germany in the world of high flying skateboarders. Recently he set up the Change Of Guard 2009 event which goal was to get a group of vert skaters from around Germany together in the Berlin skatepark with one of Germany’s largest vert ramps for a weekend of exchanging trick ideas, learning new tricks and basically having a blast (pardon the pun!).
A great idea to support vert riders which allowed these skaters to be in the same session with guys like Jürgen himself, Renton Miller, Sandro Dias, Sam Bosworth and Sam Beckett.
Rumble in Ramona 2 vert video madness

Put together a good looking ramp, a bunch of core vert skaters, live music, dancing women, booze and what do you get? A damn fun weekend or just Rumble in Ramona 2 which shows that skateboarding does still have roots and you don’t need a big stadium to show it. This is my idea of a good session and the lucky skaters still have great weather!
Lincoln Ueda was announced the winner and with those airs, it’s no wonder…
10 year old vert ramp wonderkid

As the saying goes “Actions speak louder than words!” and with this video that is more than true. This 10 year old Japanese kid named Yuto already does McTwists and check out the height he gets on his airs!! I’m speechless people, really – he must eat something special or just 8 hours a day on the board and skate videos have been implanted in his so he just dreams about tricks. Whatever it is, I want some too!

Decided to sleep in a bit today which means I got up at 8 instead of 6 in the morning – yeah, the early bird bla bla…you know the story. Doing my morning check of the various social networks, I found a video post from German vert/bowl skate rat Anders Tellen which catches some of the action at a vert demo during the Cologne Games Com 2009 in Germany with Tony Hawk, Juergen Horrwarth, Sam Bosworth and Renton Millar (filmed By Bob Joosten) – Hawk again doing the marketing tour for the latest video game RIDE.
