Featured Photographer Toño

Well, this is the only name he gave me – Toño – but that sure doesn’t make a difference with his photography and editing skills. Nice eye candy from this Spanish photographer!

Who are you? Tell us a little bit about yourself (age, what you do in life, where you live)

My name is Toño, my age is 22 and I live in Burgos (little city in north of Spain, between Madrid and Vasque Country). I work in a painting store and I have been skating since I was 15 years old.

How did you get into photography, especially skateboard photography?

Always I want to take skateboard photos, the more important reason I thing is for the skate magazines, I love a lot of the pictures I see in them.

I started photography about 3 year ago when I bought my first digital camera (Sony DSC P-100). Usually I take portraits of friends and some artistic fotos that i call “Artisteo” haha. The rest of the time I’m taking skateboard photos, here in my city or in any city of spain, events etc…

What type of equipment do you use for your photos? (outside shots, night shots, indoor shots)

Now I’m using a Nikon D-300 with a SB-800 flash and a second helper remote flash for the outdoor photos (and some indoors too), 50mm I use for the portraits and some night shoots and a 10.5 fisheye for the normal skate photos.

Do you have any special “tricks” which you like to use for certain types of pictures?

This is secret! hahaha

No, I don’t use “tricks” but sometimes for example I want to think and imagine the scene in B&W before I take the photo to get good tones for the transformation to the colors on my pc (black and white).
I love black and white…

If you could get any new equipment for free, what would you love to have?

Nice dream…..I like to get the Nikon D-3 for example, and a pocket wizard remote (now i’m using a 20€ remote from china, but don’t work bad).

What is your opinion on post-processing, especially enhancing pictures?

I like the post-processing of the photos, but not a lot.. personally in my photos I only play with color tones and frames and I don’t use photoshop for more things…

What are you currently working on and do you have any projects planned?

I’m now working every weekend taking photos of people skating in many citiess of Spain and sending information and pictures of the spanish skate event’s to this site for example : ) (Note from the editor: cheeky, but I love it! Of course I accept the offer. Thanks Toño!)

I’m preparing as well a project for an aesthetic centre where now I have a little exposition of my photos. The idea is taking some portrait picutures of different hair styles to some models and after this publicate a full color catalog
