Vans Skate Europe video series features England
May 14th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

There are loads of skate videos out there and more turning up every day. The quality is getting better and better but sometimes when watching them many just look the same as others. I found out about the Vans Skate Europe 4 part video series which is really informative about the English skateboard scene now and in the past. Make sure you watch all four as they take you on a tour through Great Britain and it’s skateboard history!
Here’s what the makers of the video series have to say about the development story behind the scenes.
Oh no, another skateboard show on VBS! Not really, Skate Europe is more like a TransEuropean miniseries tour, starting with Britain. We went to the UK to meet with a healthy cross-section of English skateboarding. In London, OG The South Bank locals like Winstan Whitter and Ben Jobe were nice enough to talk us about there beloved spot, and in Bristol we had the pleasure of chitchatting with high-ollie-ing champion Danny Wainwright about his home town. We even managed to scrounge up Ben Nordberg and Kris Vile to represent the new guard. Both of these guys are on their way to a long future in skateboarding, so it was nice to have a chance to talk with them about before they got all jaded and old.
Gallows – Grey Britain out tomorrow!
May 3rd, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

The Gallows – underground hardcore band out of Watford, England made a major amount of noise with their debut album “Orchestra Of Wolves” in 2006 with their slightly different take on what is hardcore and how to go about making it heard.
With their move over to Warner Records many believed this could be the next great band to lose it to the machinery of big business. Ooohhh how wrong could they all be with that prophecy. A smooth intro with “The Riverbank” takes you straight into the typical shout / sing-along chorus that we all love about this band. The record comes across as a lot smoother and that is nothing bad – it rocks just as well and the power is as always present. Always changing speeds, riffs and Carter’s shouts just make you want to hear it again and again..I love it already! Hear it know on the MySpace page and make sure you buy it. This band deserves the support! And yes, they are on tour right now in England, heading over to Europe and then the States for the Warped Tour 2009!

London’s Meanwhile 2 spot Rebirth session
August 18th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Ahh, it’s great to be able to be back here catching up with what is goign on around Europe and the world in skateboarding AND being able to go for an afternoon skate session myself today. So while I’m drinking my morning coffee I checked out the action which took place this past weekend at the Meanwhile 2 skate spot in London.
The session was packed and looked really intense, I personally love the bowl area with the bank leading up to it for some sweet transfers and the damn large gap – not sure if I’d even make it over that thing but guys like Dan Wileman did a perfect bigspin flip over it and Dave Snaddon did a really good looking backside flip over it as well. The good old Gyppo Army was there as well with Aaron Sweeney pushing the limits yet again with a rad 360 backside transfer from the bank into the bowl area.
Definitely a spot to hit if you make it to London, the only video I could find up till now is over on the Tackyworld.co.uk site:

Hold Tight London Volume 8 ready to watch
May 5th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young
The next episode of the monthly video installment “Hold Tight London” has reached number 8 and is now available for all of us to watch. Another good piece of skateboarding, filming and editing, enough said, check it out! Some times I just wonder if a lot, lot, lot less people were skating 10 years ago or if a lot of skaters have just turned really good in the past few years. The level of skating is pretty insane here, let that be said.
