Danny Way – 20 Years Of Pro Skateboarding
October 22nd, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Plan B Skateboards has put together a extensive tribute page for Danny Way and his 20 years of pro skateboarding. The page features loads of photos, his magazine covers and all of his major video parts. Man, even his part in Hocus Pocus is already great and that was in 1989!
Make the jump over to the Danny Way tribute page and as an extra goodie, here’s a clip with Danny Way’s part from the legendary DC Video.
Lee Bender and the American Health System
October 13th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Not everything in skateboarding is all about fun. Real life will continue to follow us and that’s why you should watch the following video. Lee Bender – former pro skater – talks in this moving video about his problems with him being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and the costs which despite comparatively good coverage have him facing over $36,000 in debt for treatment over the last 18 months. Austin Considine created the series which got me thinking again – time to hit the skate park tonight!

Danny Gonzalez leaves the pro ranks
July 1st, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Talk about bad news – Danny Gonzalez got back into the pro ranks with Jart Skateboards just last year (correct me if I have my facts wrong!) and now he received the news that his legs can not take the impact of pro street skating any longer. He’s been forced to retire from the pro ranks due to his body.
That is a major bummer – most of us know how bad it is when you are out with an injury but having to drop it completely. Sorry about this development, hope you find something new that’s good for you!

Brandon Westgate turns pro with Zoo York
May 19th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Young gun Brandon Westgate has just been promoted to the pro ranks on Zoo York. This 20-year old ripper just started skating in 2000 (what the fuck?) and has basically ripped his way up to pro status in 9 years. Not bad man. Have a look at the amount of pop this guy has in the video below and look out for his parts in Zoo York’s upcoming “State of Mind” video.

Levi Brown goes pro for Element
May 2nd, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Levi Brown has been on Element skateboard amateur roster for quite a long time and with his style and skills it was only a matter of time before he had to get the upgrade or move on. Welcome to the pro team and hope to welcome him back to Europe soon. Check out his pro decks and his welcome video below.

Mike Mo, Alex Olson and Sean Malto turn pro
June 5th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young
Girl Skateboard Company has just bumped up Mike Mo Capaldi, Alex Olson and Sean Malto to the pro ranks. Be on the lookout for their boards in stores this July. Alex Olson, by the way, is the first son of a pro skater to follow in his father’s footsteps and turn pro as well. Great to see how skateboarding is starting to really span generations…
Being a grandpa later in life is going to be great when you can gather your grandchildren around you and tell skate stories from back in the old days and the kids will just love it.

Hurley hosting Pro-Am Street & Pool contest
June 4th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young
This coming Saturday, June 7th 2008 will see top pro and amateur skaters converging on the Encinitas YMCA skatepark for the “1st Annual Pro-Am Street & Pool Invitational Masters” (hmmm, yeah I know, one shouldn’t be so picky, but how can it be annual yet when it’s in the first year – already booked for next year?). No idea if there’s any prize money but it is sponsored by Hurley and I haven’t heard of any contests with line-ups like this that don’t have a prize purse worth mentioning..
Check out the flyer and if you are lucky enough to be over there, go watch it, pools rock!
