Thrasher Skater Of The Year 2009 Is Announced!
December 5th, 2009 / 2 Comments » / by Jonathan Young

I decided this year to wait with any posting about the Thrasher Magazine Skater Of The Year 2009 award until the actual announcement was made – I mean, we could all guess but the actual decision is made somewhere else. And this year’s winner is in some ways a surprise and NOT a surprise.
Chris Cole is the second skater ever to take home the award twice (he was Skater Of The Year in 2005) and to be honest, he does skate at another level as well. He has been super busy, winning contests (Wallenberg, Maloof Money Cup and The Battle At The Berrics 2), putting together video parts (Zero Skateboards “Strange World”), basically being incredibly productive while at the same time showing the amazing skill and control he has with his board. All I can say is congratulations for the second award and keep on making us all shaking our heads at the insane tricks you keep landing!

All of the 1986 Thrasher Magazines online
July 16th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Back to the past with this flashback of information from Thrasher Magazine – the entire sixth year (1986) is available online to check out so. It’s a history lesson for some and just great to see who was doing what back in 1986. I love the advertisements and especially the clothing, but I can’t say anything against the style. I remember running around in my Vision shorts, skating on a Psycho deck…the days when you knew the name of a board without seeing the graphics.
Just to mention the names of the people on the 1986 covers: Claus Grabke, Allen Losi, Natas Kaupas, Tommy Guerrero, Lester Kasai, Glenn Danzig, Jesse Martinez, Mike Valley, Mark Gonzales, Tony Hawk and Chris Miller.

Wallenberg Photo Sequences from Thrasher Mag
May 30th, 2009 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

The adrenaline is starting to pump through the veins of a bunch of skaters who will be participating later today – that’s Saturday, May 30th 2009 for those of you reading this in the future – in the Back To The Berg contest at the Wallenberg High School in San Francisco, California. Only a select few have pulled off the insane jump down the Big Four and today $10,000 bucks are for grabs again. It’s nice to see that the money is not the main incentive here – going down in the history books at a contest which makes skateboarding good again is what it’s about here.
Thrasher Magazine has put together several animated photo sequences so make sure you visit the Thrasher site by clicking here. I just added my favorite three sequences. And I have to say it again: Elissa Steamer is definitely one of my heros for even trying it!

Chris Cole, 360 flip. 2005 Seq: Shigeo
Andrew Reynolds, bs flip. 2007 Seq: Dawes

…drum roll, Silas Baxter-Neal! Thousands of votes later he was chosen among many others to carry this prestigious award (at least among skaters…) and December 12th, 2008 will see a bunch of pro skaters getting together to celebrate this talented guy. Have a look below at the speech made by Phelps and some of the great skating Silas lays done. He’s got the style, tricks and speed, no doubt about that!
Thrasher Magazine interviews Duane Peters
November 11th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Jonathan Young

Duane Peters represents several decades of skateboarding, punk rock and living on the edge. He’s been clinically dead twice in his life, he’s invented more tricks than a lot of skaters actually have in their bag of tricks ( I just found out that he is the guy behind the indy air, yeah! My favorite trick! ) and he’s been skating longer than most of you who are reading this have been on this planet.
Thrasher Magazine has put together a 5 part online video interview with this amazing personality so follow the links below to find out more about Duane Peters. I also included a video from 1979 with Duane ripping a pool…let the date sink in…1979 people….
Thrasher interview links with Duane Peters:
Part 1: The first of a five part Duane Peters interview filmed by Lance Conklin in which The Master of Disaster talks art and being in a band on the road.
Part 2: In part two of Lance Conklin’s interview with Duane Peters, Duane talks about Jerry Only of the Misfits and how he wore out the term “Thanks for coming out…”
Part 3: In part 3 of the Duane Peters interview, he talks about Australian style, the internet, and how Los Angeles drove him South.
Part 4: Duane heats it up in part four of his 5-part interview. Filmed by Lance Conklin
Part 5: They say all good things must come to an end, and with that I give you the concluding part of the Duane Peters interview.
