Lee Bender and the American Health System

Not everything in skateboarding is all about fun. Real life will continue to follow us and that’s why you should watch the following video. Lee Bender – former pro skater – talks in this moving video about his problems with him being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and the costs which despite comparatively good coverage have him facing over $36,000 in debt for treatment over the last 18 months. Austin Considine created the series which got me thinking again – time to hit the skate park tonight!

Can an indoor skate park be any bigger?

Can an indoor skate park be any bigger?

Just found this almost ridiculous video clip over on Transworld showing Corey Duffel, Brandon Biebel, Matt Miller, Blue, Taylor Bingaman, and more top skaters having a test session in the brand new EPIC skate park in Rocklin, California.

This park is first of all indoor – but once you watch the video you won’t believe it. It is just plain and simply huge! Definitely one for the list if you are heading for the States and like indoor parks – insane!

Band check-out : Sirhan Sirhan

Band check-out : Sirhan Sirhan

Sirhan Sirhan are a three man band out of San Diego, California sporting a mixture of screamo vocals, punk and metal riffs and basically quic and dirty lyrics. It definitely is not music for those of you out there hoping to snap your fingers to a beat or something silly like that (how did I come up with that sentence??).

Basically what these guys are up to is noise rock and just last year they came out with their debut album with 11 tracks entitled “Blood” which is in my opinion and eye and ear opener – something to listen to and different than most of the generic pop/punk/metal bands sprouting out of the ground everyday. Oh, and by the way a little history lesson for all of us: Sirhan Bishara Sirhan was the guy convicted for assassinating Robert Kennedy, thus changing history itself in the USA massively – are they trying to tell us something? Get the record/CD, it’s more than worth it!

Vans Downtown Showdown 2008 this weekend!

Last year’s Vans Downtown Showdown contest was even rad to watch just as a video, that’s a contest I would have loved to watched in person. The Creature helmet structure was insane and the harm it caused to some of the skaters was more than impressive.

The 2008 Vans Downtown Showdown is going down Saturday, October 11th 2008 from 4pm to 11pm on the back lot of Paramount Studios in Hollywood. Foundation, Habitat, Creature, Girl, Blind, Element, Toy Machine and Black Label will all be competitng at this year’s DTSD. And again there is a live webcast for the event so bookmark this page for that day:

Baker Skateboards with a website and tour

Baker Skateboards website

I don’t know how long this took but it doesn’t really matter: Baker Skateboards has gone from a screensaver page to a full-fledged website which is straight to the point. Nice graphics, easy navigation with a blog / news section as well so no getting lost on this site. I personally like the horizontal scrollable deck area which gives me a quick overview of all of their boards without having to click around.

Show your underwear, get fined or even jail time!

July 10th, 2008 / 1 Comment » / by Jonathan Young

Okay, let’s get this straight first. I’ve never been a fan of the so-called fashion with the saggy pant look. What’s that? You see these guys all over the place with their jeans, trousers, pants – whatever you call the piece of clothing covering human legs – hanging almost below their butt. I never got how that can be comfortable, pulling up your trousers all the time after doing a trick and showing everybody your underwear. Looks a bit dumb to me but hey, I don’t have to follow them fashion victims now do I?

The Chief of Police in Flint, Michigan, USA – ironically called Mr David Dicks – believes “it’s a national nuisance. It is indecent and thus it is indecent exposure, which has been on the books for years.”
On June 27, the chief issued a departmental memorandum telling officers: “This immoral self expression goes beyond freedom of expression.”

Believe it or not, you can get warned, receive a fine up to $500 dollars or even up to 93 days in prison!!! Better watch out – maybe they’ll add this the the three strike system. If you’ve been convicted twice before and they catch you showing part of your underwear, you get a life sentence! Yeah, what a great idea, get all of those people off the streets.

So beware you “evil” gangster types, here’s a little chart so you can practice how to wear you trousers correctly…what a piece of crap, another useless law for you.
